This year over 2000 youth workers and educators from over 500 organizations in 9 countries were trained in PYE’s Creative Community Model.
November 2013: Catch the Fire – PYE’s first book
We’re about to launch our very own book and we’re so excited to finally be able to get this out into the world. We decided to celebrate by giving away 5 copies.
October 2013: Brazilian youth speaks
In September we ran our second youth camp on the beautiful grounds of an Agrifirma farm in Western Bahia, Brazil. On returning home Alesson Santos Oliveira who had attended the camp was asked to write about his experiences. Read what he said.
July 2013: The PYE Global Gathering
In July 2013, 90 incredible social artists gathered together on Whidbey Island, WA, USA for a week long residential camp. The results were over-whelming.

Continuing our work in South Africa, this April PYE Lead Facilitators Nadia Chaney, Justin Silbaugh and Xola Yoyo (founder of Imithayelanga Youth Development) ran a training program for a group of young people who are in the process of becoming community leaders.

2013 marks the 5th Birthday of PYE – an exciting time for the organization as we begin to see many of the young people that we and our partner organizations have worked with mature into confident young adults. We spent some time finding out what some of them were up to.

It’s important to us to understand the impact and the value of our work in order to make sure we’re using our resources wisely in the pursuit of our goals, which is why we commissioned an evaluation report to look at our work between 2010 and 2012.

For the last two years we have been working in Brazil to create a group of lead-facilitators who can plan, organize and run youth camps and creative facilitation trainings, allowing us to reach more young people and spread the Creative Community Model to youth workers and educators throughout the region.

September 2012: PYE and Dream a Dream in India
The Creative Community Model is now being actively used by youth organizations and educators on 5 continents, and one of the biggest areas of success is in India, where our partnership with youth empowerment organization Dream a Dream has already reached thousands of young people.
The Creative Community Model takes root in Brazil
We have been working in Brazil for just over a year now, identifying talented social artists and leading youth organizations who we can work with to spread the Creative Community Model and reach young people throughout the country.
Can the Creative Community Model help in conflict resolution?
Earlier this summer, non-profit and non-political organization Seeds of Peace organized a two week conference to explore ways that the arts can be used to break down barriers and unite fractured communities.
July 2012: Social artists bring youth empowerment to Uganda In the summer of 2012 PYE were part of a team who traveled to the Hope North facility in the troubled northern region of Uganda, an area which has suffered some of the worst violence and displacement as a result of the long civil war in the country. Every year PYE runs an intensive 5 weekend training course called the Heart of Facilitation (HOF), aimed at teaching people how to deliver creative, transformative learning programs. Find out more about what this training entails.
